MAAGCS will be holding a "Going Away Party" social event on Tuesday, March 5th at The Green Turtle in Olney, MD for MAAGCS Past President, Chris Harriman. Please joins us if you can!
Chris has been a true transitional leader to our association, as well as to the Maryland clubs he has served, most notably Cattail Creek CC and The Chevy Chase Club. He has been a MAAGCS member for 14 years. In 2009 he created the Assistant Superintendent Committee for MAAGCS and served as the board rep. He was elected President of MAAGCS in 2015, after totally revamping the association website, newsletter, accounting procedures and hiring a new Chapter Executive.
As MAAGCS President, revenue more than doubled, membership grew and many new initiatives were executed. He chaired the Maryland State Best Management Practices and successfully launched www.marylandgolfbmp.org in 2017. Maryland is the first state to utilize BMPs certified by the GCSAA.
Chris also helped lead and organize National Golf Day from 2010 to present, which included a community service project involving 150 people, executed on the National Mall in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, Golf Industry magazine recognized him with the “Best Blog” award. He also organized and participated in numerous First Green and First Tee events in order to grow our profession and the game of golf.
We will miss Chris as he transitions to Hermitage County Club, in the Richmond, Virginia area, where he will lead a team managing a 36-hole championship golf facility. Hermitage was formed in 1900 and is one of Virginia’s most respected clubs. Chris won the job from a field of over 50 top applicants from around the country.
