The Golf Club at South River is located five miles from Annapolis, MD, and thirty miles from both Washington DC and Baltimore. It is in the heart of the mid-Atlantic and Del-Mar-Va regions. The Golf Club is rapidly growing with 375 golf member families and another 100+ Fitness and Social member families (25% increase in two years). It is an active, young membership (average age 45), with an energetic management team and a corporate owner committed to investing in the club's growth. It was recently named best country club in Anne Arundel County, (What's Up Annapolis, 06/2021). The golf course reopened in August after an 8-week fairway renovation, converting from bent to bermuda grass. The Golf Club was built in 1995 as the cornerstone of a 500 home community. It became a private, member-only golf club in 2011. It is owned and managed by The Brick Companies, a local corporation with a diverse portfolio, including Queenstown Harbor 36-Hole public courses on the Eastern Shore, marinas and commercial real estate. The Golf Club benefits from a Member Advisory Committee and a Golf and House Committee.
The Golf Club is open year-round, offering indoor and outdoor (three seasons) dining, an Adirondack decorated event space, Fitness Center with massage accommodations and a video golf simulator room. The Golf Club offers a wide range of programs, clinics, and camps to its diverse membership.
The Turf Department, along with the entire club staff, is focused on a "Members First" approach, providing impeccable service and amenities to The Golf Club membership.
Working with the club General Manager and the company Director of Hospitality and Golf, this hands-on position is responsible for all maintenance, operation and management of the golf course and all club grounds, as well as the turf maintenance facility, equipment, tools and supplies. Maintaining The Golf Club standard of professionalism and appropriate decorum, the Superintendent must be able to lead a team with a sense of pride and strong work ethic. The superintendent recruits, hires, trains and directly supervises the Turf staff, currently including two assistants, mechanic and 12-20 crew. This position is directly responsible for establishing and controling overall turf expenses, including payroll, operational and administration expenses. The superintendent develops and maintains critical relationships with the GCSAA, USGA, and Mid-Atlantic AGCS, and all vendors that provide services and materials for the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course and club grounds. The superintendent works closely with the Head Golf Professional and is committed to a successful partnership, including determining timing of golf course maintenance, opening and closing the course and other restrictions, in order to maximize member play while protecting and advancing the golf course. The superintendent will comfortably and confidently interact with the members, educating them and partnering with them to advance the course and member services.
The superintendent works with the general manager to develop and work within operating and capital budgets. Variances are communicated and approved in advance.
The Golf Club management is a supportive and interactive team, assisting and relying on each other for the betterment of the club and the overall satisfaction of the membership.
