    Columbia Country Club is seeking a highly motivated Grounds Supervisor to join the team. The 2021-2022 season will be highlighted by beginning multiple renovations to bunkers, full irrigation system, and the conversion to Tahoma-31 fairways in July. Columbia has a long history of hosting Championships including the 2021 USGA Junior Girls Championship, 2003 USGA Junior Amateur Championship, 1921 U.S. Open, and multiple local and regional Championships.. The golf course is well known for its golden age architecture credited to Architect Walter Travis and his design dating back to 1921. Travis used the rolling terrain and poa greens to create a championship experience tee to green throughout the golf course.

    Job Description:

    The Grounds Supervisor will be responsible for the maintenance of all ornamental beds throughout the property which includes the Clubhouse, Tennis Complex, and golf course. This position will also be responsible for applying plant protectants and herbicides to maintained beds. Other responsibilities will include but not limited to daily hand watering, mowing, trimming/pruning, planting, ordering materials, etc. This position is also responsible for the supervision of 2 full time employees dedicated to maintaining the grounds.

    Qualifications:

    • A minimal high school education or equivalent years of experience
    • Must have experience with landscape management, turf grass management, including maintenance operation and safety procedures
    • Specialized training required to operate specific equipment types to perform specific tasks relative to the Landscape Operations of the Green & Grounds Department
    • Must have a valid Maryland Pesticide License or be able to obtain one in the appropriate timeframe • Must have a valid Driver's License of any state

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary of $65,000 + Year end Bonus

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensures and responsible for the highest level of maintenance detail across assigned areas • Maintains the Clubhouse grounds daily to ensure the landscape beds and surrounding outdoors areas are presented in a clean and crisp way
    • Supervise team members to ensure they are working responsibly and adhering to mandated Safety Procedures
    • Interview new team members and participate in the orientation process and training of new team members • Perform other functions and routine landscape operations activities as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents
    • Operate rotary mowers, string trim around trees, shrubs, posts, etc.
    • Perform manual weeding, edge sidewalks, landscape beds, etc.
    • Lay sod, apply mulch
    • Operate blowers (such as push, backpack, and handheld), vacuums and other hand tools
    • Operate utility vehicles, tractor, loader backhoe, boom lifts, chainsaws, and a verity of powered equipment
    • Setup daily work schedules, including applications of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, and related record keeping
    • Maintain and repair irrigation systems and controllers
    • Perform daily tasks necessary to keep the maintenance facility clean and organized to maintain a safe working environment
    • Clean machinery and fuel equipment after each use
    • Inspect all machines (before, during and after use) and report any deficiencies to the Equipment Manager
    • Be thoroughly trained in proper procedures required to perform each task as outlined in the guidelines of the Green & Grounds Operations Manual
