    Columbia Association is seeking a full-time year round Assistant Golf Superintendent.

    Summary: Assist in the supervision of the overall operation, organization, and direction of the golf course. Supervise and plan all golf course maintenance.

    Essential functions:

    • Hires, provides corrective action, directs, reviews and terminates subordinate personnel including two or more full time team members.
    • Makes regular inspections of the golf course to examine work accomplished and to determine work needed to improve playing condition.
    • Determines whether or not the condition of the course allows for play
    • Supervises the watering, fertilizing and spraying of tees, greens, fairways and related areas
    • Supervises daily mowing operations and maintenance programs
    • Helps in preparing the annual budget for construction and maintenance activities
    • Assists in planning and directing the construction of greens, tees, fairways, sand traps, cart paths, shelters, bridges and underpasses
    • Instructs equipment operators in operation and cares of equipment
    • Assists in snow plowing at the Sport and Fitness Facilities
    • Repairs and maintains all irrigation equipment
    • Assists in keeping all pertinent records
    • Willing to perform as needed all tasks related to maintaining golf course
    • Membership in various golf organizations and attends seminars to keep abreast of industry knowledge
    • Plans and prepares the course for any tournaments
    • Prepares pesticide and fertilizer applications

    Additional responsibilities:

    • Membership in various golf organizations and attends seminars to keep abreast of industry knowledge.

    Qualifications and skills:

    • Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
    • Minimum two-year Certificate/Associate's degree in Golf Course Management
    • Computer literate
    • Previous Assistant Superintendent experience

    Education

    • Two year degree in Turf or Golf Course Management

    Physical demands:

    • Ability to stand for long periods of time
    • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb without any difficulty.
    • Lifting up to 50 pounds

    Licenses, Certificates, etc:

    • MD IIIC Pesticide applicator license
    • MD Fertilizer applicator license within 3 months
    • Dot Physical required

    Work environment:

    • Ability to work in all weather conditions
    • Position may require extended hours including evenings and weekends
