Assistant-in-Training Posting:

Burning Tree Club, founded in 1922, is an 18-hole private golf club located just inside the Capital Beltway of Washington DC. Burning Tree was originally designed by C.H. Alison of Colt, Mackenzie, and Alison. We are currently in the process of finishing up a course restoration by famed Gil Hanse, architect of the 2020 U.S. Open course. 16 greens are native soil and 6 greens are sand based all with 007 Bentgrass. Tees are 007 Bentgrass and Penncross. Fairways were recently renovated in 2015, converting the fairways to a blend of 007 and SR1150 Bentgrass. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to learn to manage turf through the summer stress experienced in the transition zone.

Assistants will gain experience with GPS chemical applications, spray hawking, granular applications, calibration, and record keeping. Assistants will also have exposure to small crew management, disease identification, as well as other aspects of golf course maintenance. Assistants will work closely with the Superintendent and provide input for the success of the golf course. Assistants should adhere to a professional appearance as member interactions are quite common and encouraged.

Educational Requirements

Associates/Certificate or bachelor’s degree in turf related field. Recent graduates encouraged to apply.

Experience Requirements

Graduates in the turf grass field. Golf course experience preferred but not required.

Special Requirements

We are looking for individuals with a self-drive and passion for the turf industry. Attention to detail is particularly important.
