    This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join the staff of our Golf Course Maintenance Department as our Assistant Superintendent of the East Course and practice areas.  This entry-level, hands-on management position is involved with all aspects of golf course maintenance operations at a large, progressive, and busy private club.  The position provides excellent preparation for a career in golf course management.

    • 1100 resident and 1500 non-resident members whose average age is 58 
    • Gross dollar volume of $22 million
    • Recently completed capital improvement project included a new, 12-acre practice facility with a state-of-the-art golf performance center and a 10-hole hybrid course, both designed by the architecture firm of Coore & Crenshaw
    • Currently in second phase of course renovations of the 1927 built main course
    • East Course consists of 007 bentgrass USGA greens, Latitude 36 bermudagrass fairways with cool and warm season grasses in rough.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in formulating and implementing a sound agronomic plan for the course, and monitoring progress each season to make improvements
    • Make decisions about pesticide applications, irrigation events, opening/closing of the golf course, maintenance activities, and optimum use of staff
    • Participate in the development and management of the annual department budget
    • Actively seek educational opportunities to improve and enhance performance

    Candidate Qualifications

    • Detail-oriented, team player looking to develop golf course management and service skills
    • Associate Degree or Certificate in Professional Turfgrass Management preferred
    • Minimum of one year of golf course maintenance experience
    • Possess or ability to obtain a Virginia pesticide applicator license
    • Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds and perform the physical activities needed in this transitional zone climate
