    Rattlewood Golf Course located in Mt. Airy Maryland is seeking a trustworthy, and goal-oriented team leader to join as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

    Rattlewood was acquired in 1995 from a private developer. Featuring an 18,000 square-foot clubhouse that was converted from residential use, Rattlewood is eight miles north of Damascus on Penn Shop Road just off I-70 and MD Route 27. Rattlewood is also a short drive from Monrovia, Ijamsville, Linganore & New Market in Frederick Maryland, Glenwood & Woodbine in Howard County & Sykesville, Eldersburg, Taylorsville & Westminster in Carroll County MD.

    The Montgomery County Revenue Authority (MCRA), created in 1957, is an instrumentality of Montgomery County and a public corporation. The MCRA has two primary functions, one is to operate self-supporting public facilities, and the other is to finance public facilities. On the operations side, MCRA directly manages the Golf Course System (of 9 golf courses) and operates the Montgomery County Airpark.

    Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, and manages a team of 4-8 individuals throughout the season
    • Takes leadership role in instructing and coaching staff on daily operations including mowing, water management, course set up, projects and bunker maintenance
    • Applies fertilizers and plant protectants with safety and compliance as a top priority
    • Collaborates with other managers including Equipment Manager to ensure proper working conditions in the maintenance shop facilities and golf course.
    • Develop proper communication channels to check systems, processes and work activities for potential improvements
    • Will actively participate in bunker and tee renovations between 2021-2023.
    • Collects data and tracking information to present informed management decisions
    • Short-term goals and priorities for the Assistant Superintendent:
    • Develop rapport with existing team and begin to develop new team members through cross-training, performance evaluation and consistent coaching
    • Creates and executes daily goals for operations including but not limited to mowing, applications, irrigation programming, and course set up
    • Maintain and enforce safety training to encourage a positive workplace culture
    • Enhance daily operations and course presentation through course scouting, moisture management, plant protectant applications and project management

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • $55,000-$65,000 salary range
    • Vacation - 80 hours annually with ability to earn up to 160 hours based on years of service

    Requirements:

    • 3-5 years of golf course maintenance, turf or landscape maintenance
    • A certificate, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science, horticulture, landscape or similar field is preferred
    • A basic understanding of the game of golf and standard course maintenance practices
    • Maryland Pesticide and Fertilizer license, or ability to acquire within 90-days.
