    Established in 1992, we are situated within a private residential community and just minutes from Charlottesville, Virginia’s vibrant Downtown Arts, Music and Restaurant scene.     The Club at Glenmore’s immaculate 18-hole golf course is among Central Virginia’s most uniquely scenic and challenging properties. Intelligently designed to amplify the beauty and obstacles of Glenmore’s rolling landscape, the course presents the type of challenge our most skilled members desire while providing a point of entry for less experienced players to enjoy the game.

    General responsibilities

    • Leads the maintenance staff for the golf course and grounds.
    • Leads the maintenance and repair of the golf course maintenance equipment.
    • Provide and execute an efficient agronomy plan for playability, plant health and aesthetics.
    • Maintain and run the irrigation system in optimal condition. Water efficiently to maintain turf health and excellent playability.
    • Give professional advice and services to the facility's managing team as required.
    • Anticipate and propose long range planning.
    • Liaison to the Glenmore Community Association, (GCA)


    The golf course superintendent will be responsible to author monthly progress reports to keep the management team updated on important expenses and operational activities.

    Provide a departmental report at weekly team meeting with management.

    The superintendent is responsible for staying in compliance with state permits, local ordinances and OSHA safety standards. Certify data and submit annual water use reporting as necessary.

    General functions

    The golf course superintendent is responsible for managing and maintaining the golf course property including:

    • The golf course and practice areas
    • Maintenance equipment and maintenance facility
    • Support the maintenance of the golf car fleet with the pro shop staff.
    • Clubhouse grounds and landscaping
    • Tennis courts, swimming pool and other recreational facilities
    • Open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage and entrance

    Additional functions

    • Construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
    • Prepare the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties and purchase of equipment. Calculate the annual maintenance and capital budgets so as to implement priorities established in accordance with the long-range plan and defined maintenance standards.
    • Interviews, hires, trains and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the property.
    • Follows OSHA and safe work practices. Maintains BMP plan in accordance with the Virginia GCSA BMP template.
    • Plans all maintenance and project work, applying his or her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals.
    • Oversees the scheduling of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. The superintendent frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
    • Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and other properties. The superintendent is responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs. The superintendent approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
    • Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications and safety standards.
    • Communicates regularly with other members of the Glenmore management team to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/customer input.

    Employment standards

    • Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of golf course construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
    • Experience with the maintenance and conditioning of Bermuda grass.
    • A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
    • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations).
    • Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses or field days.
    • Must have or able to attain a Virginia State Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
