    Description

    Farmington Country Club is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our dynamic and professional team. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will play a crucial role in assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in maintaining and enhancing the overall condition of the golf course, ensuring it remains at the pinnacle of excellence for our members and guests.

    About the Course:

    Farmington Country Club is a member-owned club founded in 1927 and recognized as a Top 40 Platinum Club of America.  Farmington is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, a college community ranked as one of the best places to live in America.  The Club has an 18-hole Main Course, a 10-hole East Course, two driving ranges, multiple short-game practice areas, and an indoor golf performance center.  The Main Course is currently in phase four of course renovations, which range from bunker renovations to full greens rebuilding.  The Main Course has Vamont and Latitude Bermuda grass fairways, which are overseeded with ryegrass each fall.  The tees are predominately Latitude Bermuda, with Prizm Zoysia on the others.  The greens are USGA spec with A1/A4 bentgrass as the surface. 

    Responsibilities:

    1. Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent to develop and execute daily, weekly, and seasonal agronomic plans to maintain course conditions at the highest level of quality.
    2. Participate in the supervision and coordination of the maintenance team to efficiently implement maintenance activities, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and other relevant tasks.
    3. Demonstrate expertise in agronomy principles and practices, providing valuable insights to enhance course playability and aesthetics while adhering to environmental stewardship.
    4. Assist in monitoring and managing the budget for the agronomy department, ensuring prudent allocation of resources while maintaining course standards.
    5. Oversee and participate in equipment maintenance, ensuring that all machinery is well-maintained, safe, and operates efficiently.
    6. Help in the preparation and execution of special events and tournaments, ensuring the golf course meets the required standards for these occasions.
    7. Implement and enforce all safety procedures to maintain a secure working environment for the maintenance team and golf course visitors.
    8. Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in agronomy and golf course management, and apply this knowledge to improve course conditions continually.
    9. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting professional growth and teamwork among the maintenance team.
    10. Assist with any other tasks and projects as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or upper management.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    1. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with demonstrated expertise in agronomy practices.
    2. Knowledge of turfgrass varieties, irrigation systems, pest control, and fertilization techniques.
    3. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
    4. Adept at problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritizing tasks to achieve course maintenance goals.
    5. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational demands.
    6. Possession of relevant certifications and licenses in agronomy or turf management is a plus.
    7. Passion for golf and a commitment to delivering an exceptional golfing experience to members and guests.

    Additional Preferred Qualification:

    1. Spanish language proficiency is a plus, as it may enhance communication with Spanish-speaking members, guests, and staff.
