Duties include but not be limited to: The golf courses, maintenance equipment, maintenance center, sod nursery, water features, etc.
- Oversees the construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
- Interviews, trains, directs, supervises and reviews a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the assigned properties. The Superintendent has authority to hire or terminate associates under the direction of the Director of Agronomy.
- In conjunction with the Director of Agronomy, plans all maintenance and project work, applying their agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon standards and long-range goals.
- Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work.
- Frequently inspects the golf courses and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs to achieve improvements.
- Assists the Director of Agronomy in acquiring equipment and purchasing necessary supplies to maintain the golf courses.
- Responsible for assigned inventory control and helps oversee the equipment maintenance programs.
- Responsible for submitting purchase requests for materials, supplies, and parts necessary to maintain the golf courses properly.
- Keeps accurate and complete records on inventory, weather data, maintenance practices and procedures, fertilizer, and pesticide applications, etc.
- Assists the Director of Agronomy with developing operations and capital expenditures budget for the operation of the golf courses.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Two or four-year degree preferably in golf course or turf grass management or related field. If the degree is not specifically in turf or golf course management, candidates with other degree must have extensive training in turf or golf course management field.
- Two years management experience required
- GCSAA Class A or CGCS in good standing preferred
- Valid Virginia pesticide/fertilizer license preferred
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license or CDL, meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the Employer’s insurance carrier and must immediately report any change in status of the license to the Employer.
- Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
- Requires excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Comprehend reading materials, speak, read and write English
- Must be able to frequently use a computer.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Majority of the work is performed outdoors in various weather and ground conditions common to Virginia.
- Exposure to maintenance equipment; including but not limited to moving parts, heights, noise, airborne debris, vibration and fumes.
- Maintain a clean, safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Have physical strength, stamina and agility at levels necessary to perform common golf course operations tasks.
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to walk, sit and stand for a long period of time, as a daily routine.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairs and slopes as a daily routine.
- Must be able to professionally interact and participate with co-workers and have a sense of TEAM.
