    Assistant Superintendent

    Bretton Woods Recreation Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Superintendent.     Reports to: Superintendent

    Supervises: Grounds Staff

    Salary: Dependent on experience

    Education and Experience

    • A high school diploma or its equivalent.
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • 2- or 4-year turfgrass management degree or certificate preferred; or ability/desire to pursue appropriate education; or comparable work experience in turfgrass management field

    Essential Functions

    • Helps maintain all grounds and course maintenance equipment according to the club’s
      turf management program.
    • Develops departmental budget in conjunction with Superintendent.
    • Assists in scheduling, training, supervising, and evaluating all personnel assigned to department.
    • Assists with all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees on golf course and other facilities.
    • Assists with all turf pesticide applications.
    • Maintains course in proper playing condition.
    • Oversees repairs of broken water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs.
    • Assists with snow removal and planning.
    • Assists in supervising road and roadside maintenance within the club’s grounds.
    • Helps ensure proper landscaping for property outside of golf course including the clubhouse, pool, tennis, and surrounding areas.
    • Attends regional conferences and education seminars.
    • Pesticide Application certification or ability to obtain.
    • Nutrient Management certification or ability to obtain.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and other times as needed.
    • Conducts other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.

    • Strong communication skills.
    • Must be flexible and positive, with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
    • Can work under pressure and focus on multiple tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, where change and improvement is always present.
    • Availability to work nights, weekends, and Holidays.
    • Reliable transportation (no access to public transportation).

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
    • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
    • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and chemicals.
    • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
    • Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
    • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
    • Frequent repetitive motions.
    • Continuous standing and walking.
    • Required to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots, and hat on various occasions.
