Title: Golf Course Superintendent - Responsible for all phases of golf maintenance and agronomic operations, budgeting, mechanical repairs, and maintenance personal at Dogwood Trace Golf Course and the City of Petersburg’s Parks & Turf Division
Essential Functions
- Supervises and participates in the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, wetlands, and buildings on the facility grounds.
- Supervises and performs all maintenance and repairs to equipment. Including grinding reels, bed knives, and blades
- Supervises and performs all of the applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Supervises and performs all irrigation repairs.
- Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
- Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with golf course maintenance, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
- Assists the General Manager in the development of annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
Physical Demands: Performs medium to hard work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to inclement and extreme weather conditions.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s or associate degree in agronomy or related field
Requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a golf course superintendent in the Mid-Atlantic transition zone
Must have or obtain a Virginia commercial pesticide applicator certificate within 90 days
Must have or obtain Virginia commercial fertilizer applicator certificate within 90 days
Preferred candidate will be a minimum class A member of the GCSAA
Candidate must have high mechanical background.
Preferred candidate will have extensive knowledge of necessary maintenance and repairs to equipment including grinding reels and bed knives
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, or another state with reciprocity.
Good Driving Record Requirements consistent with the City of Petersburg Administrative Regulation – Employee Driving Record:
- Must not have more than six (6) demerit points within the past thirty-six (36) months;
- No major violation within the past thirty-six (36) months; and
- No misdemeanor suspensions within the last twenty-four (24) months.
