Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Greenbrier Country Club – Chesapeake, VA
Greenbrier Country Club, a private 18-hole Rees Jones-designed course located in the heart of Chesapeake, VA, is seeking a dedicated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The club is part of the Invited network, which operates over 200 premier clubs across the country. The course features L93 bentgrass greens and Better Billy Bunkers (renovated in 2015), with Tifway 419 Bermuda grass on tees, fairways, and roughs.
Position Summary
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent in all aspects of golf course maintenance and management. This includes the upkeep of turfgrass, plant materials, water features, and other landscaping on the course and surrounding areas. The role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a passion for maintaining top-quality playing conditions in the Transition Zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of golf course maintenance operations
- Perform pesticide and fertilizer applications
- Manage water on L93 bentgrass greens
- Participate in hiring, training, and development of staff
- Ensure team follows OSHA, club, state, and federal safety guidelines
- Supervise staff and manage daily schedules
- Maintain and troubleshoot irrigation systems
- Maintain accurate regulatory records and ensure compliance
- Communicate effectively with members, staff, and guests
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of golf course maintenance experience
- 2-year degree in Agronomy or related field (preferred)
- VA Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 60 days
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations
- Team-oriented, professional, and detail-focused
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 – $65,000+ (commensurate with experience)
