    Facility Overview

    Bayville Golf Club is a premier 18-hole private golf only club in coastal Virginia Beach known for its commitment to providing outstanding playing conditions and a strong, team-oriented culture. The club continues to invest in its golf course and maintenance operation, emphasizing modern agronomic practices and data-driven decision making while keeping with environmentally supported agronomy practices. Bayville is one of the top golf clubs in the state of Virginia 

    The club is in a great position financially with yearly operating and capital budgets to continue to enhance and excel. With 300 passionate members and long-range goals for capital enhancement to the course and club over the next several years following a renovation in 2022.  We have plans for course enhancements with architect Andrew Green and new rainbird irrigation project designed by Ian William to be installed in 2027. 

    Position Summary

    The Superintendent (Development Track) will work directly with the Director of Agronomy to oversee daily golf course operations, lead, and develop staff, and execute short- and long-term agronomic plans. This role offers a clear path toward full superintendent responsibilities and autonomy. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for executing daily operations, managing a staff of 17 to 26 and implementing both short- and long-term agronomic strategies. 

    The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about the profession, with a strong desire to grow within a progressive operation.

    This position is ideal for a current Assistant or Superintendents that is looking for a more robust agronomy standard while having more tools and support staff that allows for advancement and better quality of life. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee and execute all daily golf course maintenance operations
    • Schedule, train, and lead staff to meet conditioning and presentation standards
    • Assist in planning and execution of agronomic programs including fertility, plant protectants, and cultural practices
    • Utilize technology platforms such as USGA DEACON platformTask TrackerRain Bird Cirrus Pro, GPS sprayers and other programs such as Google Drive platform and Microsoft for scheduling, record keeping, and decision support
    • Monitor course conditions and adjust practices based on data and real-time observations
    • Assist with irrigation management, water use efficiency, and system maintenance
    • Support capital improvement projects and long-term course development plans
    • Promote and build upon a strong, positive team culture
    • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with environmental standards
    • Communication within the industry with manufactures, vendors, and local and state superintendent association's

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
    • Minimum 3–5 years of golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred
    • Knowledge of warm and cool season grasses and cultural programs 
    • Experience with irrigation systems, water management practices, and repair techniques 
    • Knowledge and understanding how budget align for long- and short-term goals
    • Familiarity with modern turf management technologies and data platforms
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
    • Valid pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain
