    First Tee – Greater Richmond (FTGR) is a youth development organization that uses the game of golf and its inherent values to shape the lives of young people from all walks of life. We are strengthening the character of the community by providing programs that build resilience in our youth, teach critical life skills, and provide caring adult supervision in a safe environment.

    The organization is seeking a collaborative, detail oriented, balanced, and innovative leader who will oversee the day-to-day agronomy operations of First Tee – Greater Richmond’s facilities. The Senior Director of Agronomy will be an excellent communicator with experience in leading and mentoring his or her team to ensure optimal playing conditions and detail work around the golf courses, practice areas, and clubhouse surrounds.

    Above all, this person will convey First Tee’s brand image to all parties in the community – First Tee participants, parents, patrons, teachers, volunteers, and donors.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Enthusiastic and detail oriented professional with knowledge and expertise of turf management and is up to date on the latest agronomic best practices.
    • Lead and oversee all operations of the golf course maintenance department at First Tee – Greater Richmond facilities including, but not limited to: turf management, equipment management, personnel management, and capital planning.
    • Responsible for developing, forecasting, and closely monitoring the maintenance budgets and taking corrective action as needed. This also includes the planning and implementation of Early Order Programs.
    • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and inspire all maintenance staff which includes: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents in Training, Equipment Managers, full-time and part-time grounds crew team members.
    • Develop, implement, and consistently document standards and planning programs at all FTGR facilities.
    • Develop and execute all standard operating procedures, emergency and safety plans, and best practices training for staff members.
    • Oversees the care and preventative maintenance of all physical assets and buildings (turf fleet, heavy machinery, maintenance shops, utilities, storage areas, etc.)
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, chemical and fertilizer application regulations, storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
    • Collaborate and support the Senior Director of Programming and Golf Management regarding facility usage for First Tee classes, camps, leagues, tournaments, and field trips.
    • Perform additional responsibilities related to the success of the organization.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience)

    • Bachelor’s degree and a background in Turf Grass Management or other related fields
    • GCSAA Membership required
    • Mature, Mission Minded Individual
    • Valid Driver’s License required
    • Possess State Pesticide Applicator License
    • Proven experience in proactively leading and managing a team
    • Previous experience of managing an operating budget with P&L responsibilities
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide and retain data via
    • Maintains adherence to the organization’s policy on confidentiality in all matters regarding personnel, financial, volunteer and other business information about the organization.
    • Seeks and participates in continuing education or professional development related to the position, the organization, or both. WORK ENVIRONMENT, TRAVEL

    AND EXPECTED WORK HOURS
    This position is performed in a golf course environment with office work such as staff scheduling, budget oversight, performance reviews, and product ordering. Typical days and hours of work will fluctuate with evenings, holidays, and weekend work as required by special events and business demand.
